Of a truth, as declared by our President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, “Nigeria is still a work in progress and we are challenged everyday to keep building in spite of the various obstacles that we face. Our strength has been in our diversity. If we look back over the years, we can say confidently that there is every reason to celebrate”.
Yes, we are of this same opinion, there is every reason to celebrate! At least, we’re no more where we used to be. We’re advancing in our democratic experiment as well as in technology and in other sectors of the economy. In the past, there was little opposition to the ruling party at the center and in the various states but it is different today.
Today, the use of GSM (even though this sector needs more work) is saving us from a lot of accidents and road mishaps that were the case when communication was not easier as it is now. Internet and mobile banking have also made things easier for us…
We can go on and on recounting the many things democracy has done for our country.
We quite understand that there are so many sectors yearning for the Government’s attention, such as: the power sector with the epileptic power supply situation, the education sector (especially the ASUU strike and general funding of the sector ), the security sector with the killing of innocent citizens by the Islamic sect, Boko Haram.
We therefore use this opportunity to advocate for peace across all the ethnic and religious groups in this country. We should understand that this is the only country we can call our home, no other one…
For the fact that we are all still alive today in a united country, called Nigeria, this calls for celebration because there is hope.
We in AFRYDEF see hope in Nigeria and we believe God will restore this hope we’re seeing in the lives of every family in this country in Jesus’ name… Amen!
God bless you and Happy Independence, Nigerians!
